Parenting @ The Anchor Church

Parenting @ The Anchor Church

parentingParenting – Often when we hear that word it makes us sigh and say “Parenting is hard work!” We know that there are many joys involved in raising kids but often we feel that the bad outweighs the good. None of us are perfect, in fact far from it but we are all striving to do our best and raise well rounded, happy children.

We have at The Anchor run some Parents Inc. courses and these have been well received by both Anchor parents and also parents in the wider community. One of the best things about these courses is spending time with other parents talking over issues and challenges. On our last course we had numerous people feedback to us that even better than the course material was the opportunities to chat with other parents. Not only do you quickly realise that you are not alone in your parenting challenges, you gain skills and tactics that really help with those tricky phases. You also learn a lot from other parents who may have discovered great things that work for them and are more than happy to share their insights with the group.

Next year we are changing things slightly. In conjunction with the very successful Marriage Course we will begin using the Alpha Parenting Course. They offer 2 courses; The Parenting Children Course is for any parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers of children aged 0 – 10 years. The Parenting Teenagers Course is for any parents, step-parents, or carers of children aged 11 – 18 years.

Each course is 5 weeks long and is a great investment both of time and money. If you are interested in doing either of the parenting courses in 2016, please indicate your interest by emailing kids@theanchorchurch.org.nz We are also looking for people to help us host these courses.

If you are keen to help other parents learn new skills and like talking to people then let Sandy or Chris Leadbeater know.
