The Anchor Church Team
Here is some exciting news from Freeset, Rahab and DBI
Freeset – A new building across the street (a Kolkata street) with opportunities to bring freedom to more women.
Rahab – Hello Geoff, Raymond and Terry and friends at The Anchor Church, it was nice to see us up on your website -thank you.
I thought I’d tell you the latest happenings and tempt you to come back next year! While the swine flu thing is on, we are not going into the Patpong Soi 1 bars, but to Soi 2 where there are open air bars and so less risk to everyone’s health. God is good as we are meeting new women, who we would not have been otherwise and just this week, the two Thai women on our outreach team were able to lead two women to God. One is a Mama-san so with God’s hand on her she could well have a great influence on others. We pray He reveals more of himself to her each day. 8th July was Rahab’s 20th birthday we celebrated with lots of food, fun and sharing of Rahab’s story – a wonderful day.
Bless you all for your ongoing support and encouragement to us – you are part of our team! Sarah and the Rahab family
Delhi Bible Institute – they have just run their summer Bible camps and had 795 kids as past of it, trained 137 people in the regional training programme in June, and 21 people were baptised
The highlights of the camps were:
One on one sharing of the gospel with all children with 195 children committed their lives to the Lord Jesus
25 bus routes to bring children in Delhi and Dehradun
184 volunteers join hands to work in the three camps
The wordless book, a simple tool to explain the gospel, consisting of six colours was used in every class. Gold represents heaven, Black is our sin which disqualifies us from entering sin, Red is the blood of Christ which takes away our sin, White is our new heart cleansed by the blood of Jesus and Green represents spiritual growth as we read the Bible, pray and stay connected to a local church. Each student was given a wordless book so that they could share the gospel with their families and friends
The gospel shared with parents on the closing days of the camps
Praise God for the hundreds of children who were reached through the efforts in Lucknow, Punjab, Delhi and Dehradun. Children in all the camps came from both high strata of society and the slums.
Looking forward to Ray bring ing his special talents this weekend. Check the YOUTH menu for their new TERM 3 programme.

“Joy is very infectious…..be always full of joy.” Mother Teresa.
What does this mean for you? Is joy just a passing emotion or a deep understanding of being accepted unconditionally by a loving God. When we know God, who accepts me as I am, gives me the freedom to be who I am, allows me to love others for who they are, it is infectious in a joyous way.
This Sunday Ray Cooper and his team is coming this weekend. Bring the whole family to see Ray this Sunday – 19 July, 10 am at The Anchor Church. And it’s free!
Ray, when he is not working at Forest Lakes Camp at Otaki, runs programmes across New Zealand with his team of puppets, along with his own comedy, magic, voice sound effects, multi-media, balloon sculptures, stories and more to teach important messages. His unique blend of performance skills and comedy reaches all ages.
This week we are celebrating baptism and the challenge of this commitment… When Jesus said come and follow me what did he mean? When the followers of Jesus left everything and followed him, what did that say about their priorities? Just wondering what it means that Jesus requires nothing from us but also everything when we follow him.
Dons Asian Wanderings 2009 1
The Flight from Auckland to Bangkok on Sunday 21 June was uneventful and long – 12 hours. There was little to see as it was cloudy most of the way. At one stage there was strong turbulence for about 45 minutes. On arrival in Bangkok I headed straight for my hotel and sleep. After breakfast the next morning I made my way to the airport and it was a 1.5 hour flight to Chiang Mai.. Continue reading Commitment, the News and Don’s Wanderings
Something to think about before Sunday. Paul said we should submit to governing authorities. Now that is a hard one to work out in life. What if you lived in Iran at the moment and wanted greater freedom, or you have views about how your taxes are used or the political process? what does this mean for me? Paul also said that we should have no debts owing to others except the debt of love. I think this means we should act now to put right those things that need to be done – to act on those ten habits from Romans 12, to undertake that mind renovation that is needed.
Nagaland, in the north-east of India is one of the least developed states on the subcontinent. It is made up of difficult terrain and is politically unstable. We needed restricted area permits to visit, could only travel to defined parts of the region and there was fully armed police and army everywhere. Many of the local people are struggling to make a living. Bright Hope Nagaland is an attempt by a group of local people to introduce hope and change to their local communities.
Reverend Subong Aier was on the leadership team at a theological college in Bangalore and he and his wife ran a boarding hostel for Naga young people in the city. They returned to Dimapur in 2006 and pulled together some high calibre people to commence a farm. The purpose of the farm was to generate income to be used for the establishment of community development partnerships, to model more efficient methods of farming and to provide livestock for the establishment of small scale farms. The project is well led by a team of high calibre people who have a very clear vision they have to establish self help groups as the primary outcome of the farm. But have you ever wondered what it meant when Paul wrote and said that he had learned the secret of being content in any and every situation. I am not sure how your week has gone but that sounds like a secret that I would like to know. Paul spoke about the need to have the same attitudes as Jesus, selflessness rather than selffishness, the need to have changed minds, to work out our faith in daily life. Muse over the last few verses of Philippians before Sunday and wonder about how we work this out.
