Darryl Ward

Darryl Ward

Darryl currently serves as pastor of The Anchor Church; a position has held since immigrating from Australia in May 2010. Darryl is married to Stella and they have four adult children, all who moved with them to New Zealand. Their four children are, Jake, Elijah, Mia and Eyvette (not forgetting their two Border Collies, Jasper and Jedi). It was a great blessing to welcome Karla as our newest family member when she married Elijah in 2017.

Darryl became a Christian in 1994 at 34 years of age in Adelaide.  After serving in a variety of roles in the local church, Darryl and his family moved to Victoria in 2004 to serve with Mobile Mission Maintenance (MMM) Australia in the International Projects office.  In 2007 Darryl (and the family) moved back to Adelaide to take up a role as Community and Outreach Pastor at Woodcroft Christian Centre while completing a BMin at Adelaide College of Ministries.

Darryl enjoys engaging with people at all levels, has a keen interest in Christian leadership development and teaching people about Christ.  In his spare time, he enjoys AFL, cricket, tramping and spending time with his family.

You are welcome

The Anchor Church (affectionately known as The Anchor) has a rich history in the north of Porirua.  From humble beginnings in the Mana area to our current location in Whitby we have sought to live out our faith as followers of Jesus Christ.

As people step in to The Anchor they often remark what a caring and friendly community we are.  In everything we do, we aim to place our trust in Jesus Christ and commit our lives to Him with guidance from the Holy Spirit.  Our teaching, practice and function are intentionally sought from biblical principles and expressed in meaningful ways throughout our church and community.

Our mission statement clearly reflects our attitude and intention, “Together Transforming People into Devoted, Passionate, Ambassadors for Christ”.

Our hope is that as people make The Anchor their church home they will desire to invest time and energy, and in doing so find their time with us spiritually enriching.  We aim to help people, not only to find their feet as followers of Christ, but to flourish as well.  Expressed simply our DNA is to teach, restore, build and release to serve the Lord.

Thank you for taking the time to browse our website and we hope to see at one of our Sunday services.
