Easter – what is it all about

Easter – what is it all about

What is Easter all about?

Each week at our church, we look back at the sacrifice of Christ through communion.

The taking of the emblems, bread and wine, symbolizes the body of Christ and the shedding of His blood for the forgiveness of the believer’s sin. Each emblem contributes to a stark reminder of the sacrifice Jesus undertook so that we who believe might have the hope (assurance) of eternal life in heaven.

Easter likewise is another reference point when we look back to the time when Jesus introduced the communion remembrance feast prior to suffering on the cross, that day being Good Friday. The outworking of the ‘Son of Man’s’ sacrifice reminds us of His selfless act in obedience to God’s will.

Yet the sacrifice was only part of the Easter story.

1 Corinthians 15:12- 14 states, “Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.

The resurrection confirms the Deity of Christ and that He was and still remains the perfect sacrifice; “the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world”. So when you come to the Easter story, are you concerned about the discussion concerning the lack of sporting activity or shopping availability or that this event has the capacity to change your eternal understanding and destination.

Jesus the Son of God died on the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day for the forgiveness of your sins. The way to heaven is stated quite clearly in the Bible, “…call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved” Acts 2:21
