A Grateful Heart

A Grateful Heart

Grateful 1 Chronicles 16

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!

An old story goes like this – a king was concerned by the ungrateful nature of his court. He arranged a banquet for them and had them seated with in the dining hall. What the guests didn’t know, the king arranged a beggar to enter and sit himself down at the king’s table and thoroughly gorge himself with food. After he feasted he then got up and left without saying a single word.

The guests became indignant and sought permission to arrest the beggar and beat him from pillar to post for his ingratitude. The king replied, “The beggar has done only once to an earthly king what each of you does three times each day to God. You sit there at the table and eat until you are satisfied. Then you walk away without recognizing God, or expressing one word of thanks to Him.”

Its way too easy to neglect God for all He has so graciously given us. We have plenty and yet may not see that.

So as we ask for God’s blessing let us never forget to praise and give thanks to Him for what we have.
